General information regarding property taxes:
There are 2 tax bills per year. The summer bill is mailed by July 1st and is due by September 14th without interest and is still payable until February 28th with 1% added each month or part thereof on the unpaid balance.
The winter bill is mailed by December 1st and is due by February 14th without penalty. From Feb 14 to Feb 28 there is a 3% late penalty added. On March 1st. of each year, all delinquent taxes are turned over to the County for collection with additional charges added. The County Treasurer will send delinquent notices beginning in May. There is a note on the winter bill if the summer has not been paid as of print date.
The principle residence exemption is only reflected on the summer tax bill. The 18 mills exemption is for the school operating tax which is not billed on the winter bill.
If there is a florescent pink sticker on your bill, a copy has been sent to your mortgage company.
The summer and winter bills are for the current calendar year regardless of fiscal years printed on the bill. They are figured on your taxable value as of the end of the previous year.
Partial payments of any amount are accepted and a receipt issued showing the balance due. If there is a balance as of the end of February, that amount will be turned over to the County Treasurer as delinquent. The County also accepts partial payments on the delinquent amount.
